KWARA 2015: Bukola and Gbemi again

gbemi-and-bukola

Since the  merger of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State with the All Progressives Congress (APC) last month, the political climate in Kwara has changed as politicians opposed to the political dominance of Senator Bukola Saraki have suddenly come out from their shells.

gbemi-and-bukolaThis is aside the fact that original members of the APC in the state are also jittery that Bukola and his election winning team could take the party from them and turn them to play second fiddle in their own party.

This fear is understandable given the past deft political moves of the Sarakis in outsmarting political opponents.

D’banj says he cancelled Koko Concert 2013 in honour of Mandela (Yeah right)

By Osagie AlongeTyme Out with Tee A- D'banj 5
Sad news for D’banj fans: There will be no Koko Concert this year.
The Pop singer himself made the announcement on his Twitter, explaining that the yearly concert was cancelled because of the ‘Madiba Legacy Concert which held yesterday (December 18, 2013) at  The Oceanview Restaurant, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Hey Kokolets, the yearly Koko Concert has been cancelled because of the Madiba Legacy Concert happening tomorrow at the Ocean View event center!!‘, he wrote.
D’banj’s reason for cancelling the event does sound very cheeky as we wonder how a one-day tribute concert (which he clearly did not put together) would stop him from holding his own show this December.
He has however promised to make it up to his fans by hosting three ‘Koko Parties’ this yuletide season. ‘Not to worry I’m hosting 3 Koko parties this season for my Dear FANS’, he added.
The first Koko Concert was held in the UK (2010) with the following year’s holding in Nigeria. Last year, D’banj brought G.O.O.D Music acts Big Sean, Pusha T along with Tinie Tempah and Idris Elba for the concert.

Angry Olusegun Obasanjo Lashes Out Over Letter From His Daughter

With echoes of the open letter to former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo from his daughter, Iyabo, reverberating nationwide, the daughter yesterday gave reasons she gave up on her father ever changing.

OBASANJO-1
Senator Iyabo Obasanjo spoke against the background of mixed reactions from Yoruba elders and politicians on the import of the letter which she said was the last communication with her father.
The former president himself was furious when approached by Vanguard, yesterday, as he hurled invectives at the newspaper. The exchange between Vanguard and the former president ran thus:
Vanguard: Sir, we tried reaching you all through yesterday, to no avail, over the letter written by your daughter, Iyabo, to you.

Toke Makinwa and ex Maje Ayida unfollow each other on Twitter, Instagram

Last weekend budding Rhythm FM 93.7 OAP Toke Makinwa disclosed that she had ended her 12-year romantic relationship with her fiance – lifestyle and wellness enthusiast and owner of Eden Lifestyle, Maje Ayida.
Toke Makinwa has now unfollowed Maje on social networks Twitter and Instagram with the latter returning the favour. To be honest, we don’t know who  unfollowed who first…
I am not under any pressure to get married. It’s the society that puts pressure on women not minding that divorce rates are high. I was once in a long term relationship with Maje Ayida and it has come to an end‘, Toke told Kemi Lawal in an exlcusive interview with Punch Newspaper.
Despite confirming their break-up after weeks of rumours, Makinwa won’t be divulging much details about her relationship with Maje who seems to be very withdrawn. ‘I think it’s unfair for me to speak about our relationship because he is not here to defend himself. He is an amazing guy but it was not meant to be‘, she added.

She is too beautiful for a gospel album cover?

Religious groups have been criticizing Mary Mary's Erica Campbell's new album cover, saying her dress is too tight and she's showing off too much curves on a gospel album cover. They think she should have toned it down a little. Erica is going solo after leaving Mary Mary

Several online tabloids are reporting that Wizkid and Wande Coal got into a fight at a GTBank End of Year party held over the weekend in Lagos. Both parties have however denied any scuffle occurred.
A number of blogs allege that Wizkid had a terrible outing at the party, stating that fans who had attended the show tweeted about the his ‘poor performance’.

Introducing Samsung S4 Zoom smartphone-camera

A heftier point-and-shoot camera than some of its predecessors, the Samsung S4 Zoom has found a niche in buyers who double as casual photographers, and who want a basic digital camera with their smartphone.
There are smartphone cameras and there are good smartphone cameras. And then there is the Samsung S4 Zoom.
It’s been a year for trying new things on smartphones (see Nokia’s brilliant Lumia 1020, HTC’s super-sexy One and Samsung’s monstrous Mega) and Samsung is at it again with the S4 Zoom. Samsung continues to position itself as a company that’s willing to embrace forward-thinking, unique ideas and they don’t get much more unique than this.
The S4 Zoom is

The Best 5 Nollywood Actress of 2013

I watched a number of films this year and as many as were being churned out in all the zones, I had to pin-point my search to specifics. As a filmmaker, with many years of experience to my credit, I know good acting when I see it. Acting is inborn while talent is general but depth in acting is few among actors. And so, my blog has decided to award and possibly reward actors with citations and accolades for their art in a preceding and current year. I and my editorial staff think this will be a good and unbiased reward system. I drew up my conclusions about the names on this list after watching them in stand-out roles in some movies released in late 2012 to the last quarter of 2013. I consulted a few of my colleagues about my list; tested film directors and there was an unanimity on 70% of the criteria I used in arriving at my conclusion. They all agreed with me 100% on the choice for the Number One Actress in 2013.
This list is wholly based on my perception , criteria and experience. I consulted as much as possible and decided too to add my blogazine as part of the award process. In essence, this means that these actresses mentioned here would be given special award plaques in the first quarter of 2014 by charlesnoviadaily.com for being part of this list. I do not seek to compete with the numerous awards strewn all over the place but to add a sane and credible voice to a general reward system for talent. Ours will be different because it is a critics award, not lobbied for nor coveted. It is just a plain and honest award for artistic excellence.
For those who may not agree with me on the choice of actresses in this list, you are free to draw your own conclusions. However, note that this is not a list of ‘The Top Actresses in Nollywood based on over-exposure on Red Carpets’ or some whimsical fan base. This list is based on talent, characterisation, body of artistic work for the year in review and most of all interpretation of the roles the actresses played. None was judged on nebulous criteria such as ‘how many years one has spent acting’ or awards won in other climes in the year in question. Whether new or old, the actresses on this list gave a rousing performance in 2013 and I applaud them.
So, here are the Best 5 Nollywood Actresses in 2013. ( The term ‘Actress’ used here is to differentiate the gender as there is a ‘Top 5 Nollywood Actors of 2013′ coming up on this blog this week)
